Madarao Kogen is a mid sized resort located right in the centre of the “golden triangle” – between Myoko, Nozawa and Shiga. Like Myoko and Nozawa, Madarao also recieves a good amount of snow. The resort is progressive in its attitude to powder seekers, you will find the patrol are not too heavy handed if you attempt to access the side country, of which there is a lot on offer at Madarao. 60% of the resort is ungroomed and unlike Myoko and Nozawa, competition for powder is not intense to say the least. For the start of the 2008/09 season, Madarao prepared 2 new courses: Airwave and Usagi, Advanced and Intermediate powder courses. The have more of the same in the pipeline for next season.
Madarao is also family friendly, with a kids park, daycare with English speaking staff, and free lift tickets for kids. Backcountry skiing is also possible: Madarao Kogen Backcountry
